Ritu Bhalla is a diversified researcher who serves as regional application leader for the IFF Application Center in Hyderabad, India. She develops and launches biotech solutions for the ethanol and carbohydrate processing industries and supports customers across Asia.  

From 2007-15, Bhalla previously served as Technical Leader and Research Scientist for the Industrial Biotech group. In that role, she worked on several multidisciplinary projects, from developing peptide technology for personal care applications to Biobutanol for the Biofuels market. She led upstream biocatalyst development projects and downstream process optimization efforts in collaboration with pilot facilities to scale up the technologies.  

Bhalla has extensive experience in managing R&D and application/product development projects that span multiple segments from industrial biotechnology (fermentation, microbiology, biologicals, and enzymes) to agriculture. Prior to joining IFF, she conducted postdoctoral research in the bacterial signaling and drug discovery field at Washington State University.  

Bhalla has authored many peer-reviewed articles and is a co-inventor in several granted patents and patent applications. She participated in multiple international conferences, panel discussions, and grant-review committees. Bhalla also earned a doctoral degree in biotechnology from the University of Delhi, India.
